One diabetic cure that may be underway is the use stem cells to cure diabetes. Stem cells have already been known to reverse diabetes in mice. Clinical trials have also found it to work in humans as well. Time Magazine reported in 2009 that a research team from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and Northwestern University were able to reverse the course of type 1 diabetes by using the patients own stem cells.
In a 2011 article by the Las Angeles Times, it is stated that the first successful transplant of islet cells in to a diabetic patient occurred in 1989. The article goes on to say that it isn’t perfect, but these transplants greatly improve diabetes to the point where the patient no longer needs injections. That is, at least until the beta cells stop working an a new transplant is needed.
There is no surprise that the American Diabetes Association proudly supports all forms of stem cell research. The website states that scientists though out the world believe that stem cell research holds great promise in better treatments for diabetes. “Stem cell research” it states, “allows scientists to better explore ways to control and direct stem cells so that they can grow into other cells, such as insulin-producing cells.”

Many diabetes patients are searching to cure diabetic problems through natural or alternative treatments. There are many natural remedies that people claim may work to cure diabetic neuropathy. Acetyl-L-carnitine, which is a supplement, has been found to regenerate nerve fiber clusters, and also helping to reduce pain. Who knows? This may be the next diabetic natural cure. Whatever the case, the future looks bright for diabetes sufferers.
